Criminal Defense

For more than 25 years, Miller | Butler has been defending clients charged with felonies, misdemeanors, or traffic offenses. We pride ourselves on tirelessly fighting for our clients from beginning to end to ensure no one is wrongfully convicted or overcharged. For each client, the criminal process can be very stressful and seem complex, so having an experienced attorney can give you the support and confidence you need to get through this difficult situation. Our team of criminal defense attorneys handle all felonies, state and federal, misdemeanors and traffic offenses.

Should I get a private attorney or a court-appointed attorney? Court-appointed attorneys are reserved for those who meet certain financial requirements to establish he or she is unable to afford a private attorney. If you can afford a private attorney, you should hire one. Fees will vary based upon the severity of each case and the experience of each of attorney. Our attorneys typically charge a flat fee which is fixed so you know exactly what you will have to pay for our representation from beginning to end.

I am guilty, so why do I need to fight my case? First, every individual was born with constitutional rights, specifically the right to privacy and the right to free from unlawful searches and seizures. If law enforcement violated your constitutional rights in the process of charging you, the state may have to dismiss your case. But this can only happen if the appropriate motions are filed with the court. Second, law enforcement can often overcharge, or the state can often over punish. Having an attorney, even if you are guilty, can ensure you are punished fairly for the right charge.

Can I not just represent myself? You can, but you will be held to the same standard through the legal process as if you were a licensed attorney. Certainly, the more severe the case, the higher the punishment range, the more complex the investigation process, the more there is a need to not only have an attorney, but an experienced one with respect to your particular case.

Why chose Miller | Butler? There are few charges, if any, our team at Miller Butler has not handled all the way though trial for our clients. The best asset you can have when defending against a criminal charge is the ability, knowledge, and experience to take your case to trial and make the state prove its case. To do that, you need an attorney with trial experience, and at Miller | Butler our team has that experience.

Proactive Defense Strategies for Every Case

Waiting for the prosecution’s next move can put a client at a disadvantage. At Miller | Butler, we believe in a proactive defense approach, so we can be one step ahead. This means thoroughly investigating the facts, interviewing witnesses, gathering favorable evidence, and identifying weaknesses in the prosecution’s case early on. Our attorneys carefully examine every detail, from potential constitutional violations to inconsistencies in the prosecution’s story. In some cases, being proactive means negotiating with prosecutors before charges are even filed, possibly avoiding charges altogether or securing reduced charges before a case goes to trial.

Understanding the Value of Experienced Legal Representation

In criminal cases, experience isn’t just beneficial—it’s essential. Criminal law is intricate, with constantly evolving statutes and legal precedents. At Miller | Butler, our team brings over 25 years of dedicated criminal defense experience, covering a wide range of cases from minor misdemeanors to serious felonies in both state and federal courts. This experience allows us to understand the complexities of each case, assess the prosecution’s strategies, and anticipate potential challenges. We leverage this insight to advocate fiercely on behalf of our clients, ensuring they’re not overcharged or unfairly treated.

Personalized, Client-Focused Representation

At Miller | Butler, we recognize that each client’s situation is unique, which is why we are committed to providing personalized, client-focused representation. We take the time to listen, ensuring that our clients feel heard and supported. This client-centered approach allows us to tailor our defense strategies to align with each client’s priorities, whether that means fighting for a dismissal, negotiating a favorable plea, or going to trial.

For clients who are first-time offenders, we prioritize strategies to avoid a criminal record, potentially securing diversion programs or alternative sentencing. For clients with prior convictions, we work toward minimizing penalties and exploring rehabilitation options. At Miller | Butler, our goal is not just to defend against charges but to advocate for our client’s best interests and support them through every step of the legal journey.
